Time

Stretching, freezing, scattering.

Thirteen nodes for reshaping when things happen inside a buffer — from straightforward crops and reverses to extreme spectral manipulation that would have taken hours offline on hardware samplers. The basics: Time Crop extracts a region with fade-in/out handles, Time Reverse flips the buffer (with options to reverse magnitude, phase, or both independently), Time Concat joins two buffers with a crossfade. The deeper time tools: Paulstretch for extreme stretching (up to 50× and beyond, the right tool for ambient drones); Grain Cloud for synchronous granular synthesis with pitch, time, and jitter control; Time Quantize and Time Warp for non-linear remapping with envelope curves. The spectral-time ones are the unique ones: Frame Hold is sample-and-hold for spectral frames, Spectral Delay gives every frequency bin its own delay time, Spectral Echo produces decaying spectral copies with high-frequency rolloff, Spectral Stutter and Spectral Freeze Stutter rhythmically repeat or freeze frames, Spectral Smear blurs the spectrum along the time axis for trails and ghosts. Several of these effects don’t exist outside the spectral domain — they’re a direct consequence of K2K processing audio as STFT data rather than samples.

Nodes

  • Time Reverse — Reverse audio/spectrogram in time with component selection
  • Time Crop — Extract a time region with optional fade handles
  • Time Concat — Concatenate two spectral buffers with crossfade
  • Time Warp — Non-linear time remapping using an envelope curve
  • Frame Hold — Sustain a single spectral frame for a specified duration
  • Spectral Smear — Blur/average magnitude along time axis (motion blur for audio)
  • Spectral Echo — Create decaying copies of spectral frames at regular intervals
  • Spectral Stutter — Rhythmic repetition of spectral frames
  • Time Quantize — Creative time quantization with attractor and variable grid modes
  • Spectral Freeze Stutter — LFO-triggered spectral freeze with rhythmic stutter patterns
  • Spectral Delay — Per-bin spectral delay with envelope-controlled frequency weighting
  • Grain Cloud — Synchronous granular synthesis - grain clouds with pitch/time control
  • Paulstretch — Extreme time stretching (10x-1000x) for ambient drones and sound design
