Phase governs how frequencies line up in time — get it wrong and a sound goes hollow, smeared, or comb-filtered; get it right and a chain of spectral processing comes out clean. K2K’s phase category currently houses one tool, Phase Playground, an experimental space for creative phase manipulation: smooth, randomise, lock, push, shift, or invert the phase of a buffer. It’s not a repair node — earlier sculpt and surgical-repair nodes were retracted after extensive testing showed the underlying assumptions weren’t validated on real material. What survives is the playground itself, useful for sound design moves that other categories can’t reach (locking partials together, randomising for lo-fi smearing, inverting for psychoacoustic flips).
