Parameters
| Parameter | Range | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Pitch Semitones | -24.0 – 24.0 | 0.0 |
| Fine Tune Cents | -100.0 – 100.0 | 0.0 |
| Dry/Wet | 0.0 – 1.0 | 1.0 |
Pitch Semitones — Pitch shift in semitones, ±24. ±12 = one octave, ±7 = perfect fifth, ±5 = perfect fourth, ±3/4 = minor/major third. The phase vocoder preserves duration — only pitch changes. For best results stay within ±12 semitones; past that, formants start to feel obviously shifted (chipmunk / monster character) — use that creatively or pick Harmonizer if you want multiple voices instead.
Fine Tune Cents — Fine pitch adjustment in cents, ±100. Sums with pitch_semitones (100 cents = 1 semitone). Use for tuning corrections (drift, slightly flat samples), beating effects against a reference, or microtonal experiments. Combine ±50 cents on parallel copies for natural detune chorus.
Dry/Wet — Equal-power blend between dry input (0) and pitch-shifted output (1). Node-specific (sits outside the shared FX params), so it survives when this effect is hosted in a Player FX slot.
Additional controls
Fft Size — FFT window size for the phase vocoder: 512 / 1024 / 2048 / 4096.
- 512 — lowest latency, best for transient material but smears tonal content. Sounds gritty on sustained notes.
- 1024 — balanced for percussive material with some pitch content (drum loops, plucked instruments).
- 2048 — default. Best general-purpose choice; clean on vocals, pads, instruments.
- 4096 — highest frequency resolution but smears transients. Use for sustained pads, drones, ambient material with no strong attacks.
Larger FFTs trade time resolution for frequency resolution — the trade-off is unavoidable in phase-vocoder pitch shifting.
Phase Lock — Phase locking across spectral peaks. On keeps harmonically related bins phase-coherent — produces tighter, more natural-sounding pitch shifts on tonal material (vocals, instruments). Off lets each bin shift independently — sounds looser/phasier and can be more interesting on noise, drones, or textural material where you don’t want a strong “single voice” feel. Default is on; flip off as a creative effect.
About Pitch Shift
Pitch Shift is K2K’s main phase-vocoder pitch shifter — preserves duration, shifts pitch, with quality/latency trade-off via fft_size. It’s the “FX-slot-grade” pitch shifter (also available in Player FX slots, sharing the same params). Compare with Pitch (lighter native shifter, has quality presets and built-in interval buttons — better for per-slice / per-step pitch in the sequencer where many short shifts are needed) and Harmonizer (2–4 simultaneous shifted voices for harmony generation, not just transposition). For musical pitch shifts of one source pick this; for stacking thirds and fifths pick Harmonizer; for per-slice quick shifts inside CollageNode or sequencer steps pick Pitch.
