Duration — Duration of the captured window around each detected micro-event, in ms, 1–10. This is intentionally much shorter than the regular Transient Extractor — micro-transients are sub-10ms events like clicks, pops, vinyl crackle, and digital glitches. Set duration just longer than the events you want to capture (typically 3–7 ms for clicks; 8–10 ms for slightly broader pops).
Sensitivity — Detection threshold for micro-events, 0–100%. Low values catch only the most prominent clicks; high values catch subtler micro-events including soft breath clicks, mouth noises, and quiet vinyl crackle. Default 70% is a balanced starting point — adjust based on whether you’re getting false detections (lower) or missing real events (raise).
Additional controls
Interval — Minimum time between consecutive detected micro-events, in ms, 1–50. Prevents the detector from firing multiple times on a single perceptual event. 10 ms is good for most material; raise to 20–30 ms for sources where multiple legitimate micro-events can occur in quick succession (digital glitch passes, rapid percussive material).
About Micro Transient Extractor
Where the regular Transient Extractor catches musical attacks (drum hits, plucks, plosives — events with 10–100 ms attack windows), the Micro Transient Extractor catches sub-10 ms events: clicks, pops, vinyl surface noise, mouth clicks, digital sample-edge artifacts, the kind of fine-grained “junk” that contributes to a recording’s lo-fi character. As with all K2K extractors, you get two outputs (extracted clicks + rejected clean material) so you can process them independently — for example: extract clicks → process them through a delay → recombine with the cleaned source for “click delay” effects. Or use the rejected output as a click-removed clean signal. For broader transient detection (musical attacks rather than micro-events), use the regular Transient Extractor instead.
